  • The four-day long mega science expo, India International Science Festival (IISF-2018) concluded in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.IISF was inaugurated by the President Ram Nath Kovind. IISF 2018 also saw two major Guinness World Records being made one of which was a World Record successful attempt to “isolate DNA” by 550 students from class 8th to 10th standard.The theme of IISF-2018 was "Science for Transformations".

International:
  • Pakistan on Monday successfully test-fired Ghauri ballistic missile which is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads up to a distance of 1,300 kilometers, bringing many Indian cities under its range. 

Importance of the day:
  • 9th October is celebrated each year as World Post Day.The theme selected for the 2018 competition is: "Imagine you are a letter travelling through time. What message do you wish to convey to your readers?".

Science and Technology:
  • Google will be shutting down Google+ for consumers as part of a data privacy measure announced on Monday.The move comes as the company revealed that a previously undisclosed security flaw exposed hundreds of thousands of Google+ users' profile data.

Business:
  • Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution, C. R. Chaudhary, is leading the Indian delegation to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)- EXIM Bank, Regional Conclave on India-West Africa Project Partnership being held in Abuja, Nigeria on 8th – 9th October 2018.

Financial News:
  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday forecast a growth rate of 7.3% for India in the 7.4% the next year.In 2017, the growth rate was 6.7%.
  • The Centre in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India has decided to issue Sovereign Gold Bonds 2018-19. The Sovereign Gold Bonds will be issued every month from this month to February next year. 
  • The National Housing Bank (NHB) on Monday increased its refinance limit to Rs 30 000 crore to make more funds available to eligible housing finance companies.It had initially set a limit of Rs 24 000 crore this year (July 2018-June 2019) for refinancing eligible institutions.

Sports:
  • Javelin thrower Sandeep Chaudhary produced a stunning world record effort as India bagged 11 medals, including three gold, on a productive day at the Asian Para Games in Jakarta.
  • Jeremy Lalrinnunga won the first gold medal for India at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina by lifting a combined weight of 274kgs in the Men's 62kg Group A event of weightlifting.
