National:
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurated the first Global Mobility Summit called MOVE, which will deliberate on steps to promote electric vehicles and shared mobility.The two-day summit is being organised by the government think-tank Niti Aayog.
  • Ministry of Railways & Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) organised a seminar on “Leveraging IT for Mobility” here today.  Minister of Railways & Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Shri Goyal also launched a new app – “AAPOORTI’ mobile App of ‘Indian Railways e-procurement system’.

Inauguration:
  • The 6th edition of the biennial Bengaluru Space Expo was inaugurated by ISRO Chairman Dr.K Sivan in Bengaluru.The three day event will showcase industry participation in Indian space programme.

International:
  • India is the Partner Country in the 87th Izmir International trade show which begins in Turkey from Friday, September 7, 2018. In this trade show India will also be launching a mega business pavilion ‘Source India’ hosting 75 Indian companies with the aim of tie-ups in order to increase India’s exports to Turkey and other neighbouring countries.This is part of a series of Source India pavilions that the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) is hosting in important trade shows across the world for boosting India’s exports.

Defence news:
  • India and Sri Lanka today began their bilateral naval exercise off Lanka's Trincomalee focusing on anti-piracy exercises, gun firings, cross-deck helicopter operations and anti-surface operations. 

Financial:
  • The Union government on Thursday doubled the pecuniary limit to Rs. 20 lakh for filing loan recovery application in the Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRTs) by banks and financial institutions, to help reduce pendency of such cases.As a result, any bank or financial institution or a consortium of banks or financial institutions cannot approach DRTs if the amount due is less than Rs. 20 lakh.

Sports:
  • Saurabh Chaudhary claimed a record-shattering gold in the junior 10m air pistol event but Abhishek Verma missed out on an Olympic quota after finishing eighth in the senior competition of the ISSF World Championship.
