National:
- The Union Home Minister was inaugurating the 3-day Defence & Homeland Security Expo and Conference – 2018, organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
- The Telangana Cabinet on September 6, 2018 passed a resolution calling for the dissolution of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
- India and the US held the first edition of the two-plus-two talks in New Delhi. The meeting was aimed at further strengthening bilateral defence and security collaboration as well as boosting their global strategic partnership, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
- The Supreme Court abolished Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the 1862 law which criminalised homosexuality. The Delhi High Court had decriminalised homosexuality in 2009, but the decision was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2013.
- Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited’s (BEL) order book for the first time has crossed beyond Rs 50,000 crore after bagging a Rs 9,200 crore order for supply of seven Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM) systems.
Financial news:
- The government on Wednesday decided to make the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) an open-ended scheme and added more incentives to encourage people to open bank accounts.In view of the "runaway success" of the scheme, now it has been decided to make it open-ended with more incentives, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told reporters after the Union Cabinet meeting.

- World Health Organisation (WHO) Wednesday said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh has been nominated for a second five-year term as regional director of its South-East Asian Region.

- India and the United States today signed the long-negotiated COMCASA defence agreement that will allow New Delhi to buy sensitive American military equipment.

- BSNL has roped in Indian boxer M.C.Mary Kom as its brand ambassador for two years. Mary Kom will endorse and be engage in promotional activities of BSNL for its various services.
Obituary:
- Noted author and journalist Bhagwatikumar Sharma, unarguably the biggest name in literature to have emerged from Surat, passed away at the age of 84.He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988 for his novel 'Assorlayok'.
