National:
  • A Conference on “E-Mobility in Indian Railways” organized by Ministry of Railways through Institution of Railways Electrical Engineers (IREE) in association with NITI Aayog concluded in New Delhi.The conference was a pre-cursor to the "Move:Global Mobility Summit".

Joint Exercise:
  • Indo-Kazakhstan Joint Army Exercise 'KAZIND' will be conducted between the Indian and Kazakhstan Army from 10 to 23 Sep 2018 in Otar region, Kazakhstan. This is the third joint military exercise between the two countries which have a history of extensive cooperation in the defence arena. The second edition of the exercise was held in India last year.

Importance of the day:
  • The International Day of Charity is observed globally on September 5 with an aim to recognise the role of charity in alleviating human suffering within and among nations, as well as to recognise the efforts of charitable organisations and individuals such as Mother Teresa.
  • India has commemorated the birth anniversary of the great Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan as 'Teachers Day'since 1962 to honor such wonderful teachers across the country.

International:
  • The International Women Entrepreneurs Summit 2018 is being held in Kathmandu, Nepal.Vice President of Nepal Nanda Bahadur Pun inaugurated the summit on Monday.The theme of 3-day event is “Equality begins with Economic Empowerment”.

Financial news:
  • The MSME Ministry has approved a proposal by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to increase the wages of artisans by over 36 per cent, from Rs 5.50 per hank previously to Rs 7.50 per hank.
  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned an amount of Rs 335 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) to West Bengal. The fund, alloted in August, would be used for 158 minor irrigation projects and 23 flood protection projects.
  • HDFC ERGO, India's third-largest non-life insurance provider in the private sector, today announced the launch of 'E@Secure', a Cyber Insurance Policy for individuals.
Appointments:
  • Arif Alvi, a close ally of Prime Minister Imran Khan and one of the founding members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, was elected as President of Pakistan.He has become 13th President of Pakistan.
  • Justice Ranjan Gagoi will become 46th Chief Justice of India succeeding incumbent Dipak Misra.With this Justice Ranjan Gagoi will become first CJI from North-Eastern region.

Awards:
  • Union Territory of Puducherry has bagged top position in National Clean School Award after seven schools from Puducherry were awarded for cleanliness.
  • Tamil Nadu bagged second position in National Clean School Award. The third position was shared by Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.Fourth position was shared by Jharkhand, Haryana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Sports:
  • 13 years after making his international debut, Indian fast bowler RP Singh announced his retirement from international cricket. In an emotional note on Twitter, the 32-year-old fast bowler revealed the reason behind his decision exactly 13 years after he made his debut for India in an ODI against Zimbabwe.
