National:
  • The lander on the Chandrayaan-2 mission, which is scheduled to be launched next year ,will be named 'Vikram' after Vikram Sarabhai,the father of Indian Space Programme.
  • Ahead of the Independence Day, the Delhi Police inducted India's first all-woman Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team for anti-terrorist operations.Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has inducted the unit formally.
  • Country’s first genetic resource bank, which could have far reaching implications in conservation and revival of extinct and endangered species in the near future, was inaugurated at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology’s (CCMB) Laboratory of Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES) facility. 
  • Chattisgarh has become the first state in India to provide ' Right to Skills',as per Chief minister of Chattisgarh Raman Singh.He said it on the eve of flagging off fifteen skill chariots to launch the government's project of ' Skills on Wheels' in the state.
  • Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated various initiatives as part of smart city project of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Monday.

Ranking:
  • Country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) is considered to be the most patriotic brand, according to a survey, followed by Tata Motors, Patanjali, Reliance Jio and BSNL.
  • International data-analytics group, YouGov Omnibus collected online data from among 1,193 respondents in India a week ago using YouGov’s panel of an online representation of India. The surveyed people said, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai is the most global Indian followed by former Miss World and actress-singer, Priyanka Chopra.
  • Three cities in Maharashtra — Pune, Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai — top the first Ease of Living Index brought out by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The national capital, New Delhi, is ranked 65 among 111 cities, while Chennai is in 14th place. Kolkata did not participate in the survey.
  • The Railway Ministry on Monday released the third party survey report on station cleanliness conducted by Quality Council of India (QCI). Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal was present to grace the event.The third survey declared Jodhpur as the cleanest railway station in the country followed by Jaipur and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.The third cleanliness survey covered 407 stations, including 75 stations in A1 and 332 stations in A category stations.Category A has been topped by Marwar station of Rajasthan followed by Phulera Station(both stations are from North Western Railway).

  • Justice Manjula Chellur today took oath as the Chairperson of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity under the Ministry of Power in New Delhi.

Language Recognition:
  • Santhali (Santali), a tribal language primarily spoken in India, Bangladesh and Nepal, received global recognition when it got a Wikipedia edition in its own script.

Sports:
  • Indian golfer Viraj Madappa won his maiden title on the Asian Tour at Take Solutions Masters in Bengaluru on Sunday as he carded a four-under 67 in the fourth and final round to claim a two-shot victory.
  • 17-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal clinched his fourth Canadian Masters 1000 title at the Rogers Cup in Toronto. He defeated Greek teenager Stefanos Tsitsipas. 

Obituary:
  • Chhattisgarh Governor Balramji Dass Tandon died at a hospital here today, an official said. He was 90.Tandon, one of the founder members of the Jansangh which later became the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), became the governor of Chhattisgarh in July 2014.
