National:
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced the launch of world's largest government-funded programme - the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyaan. It will be launched on the birth anniversary of Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay on 25th of next month.The healthcare initiative will have a positive impact on 50 crore Indians under Ayushman Bharat.Under the government has decided to provide five lakh rupees health care insurance cover for the poor and vulnerable under the programme and in future it can be extended to the low middle class. 
  • NITI Aayog on August 14, 2018 launched ‘Pitch to MOVE’, a mobility pitch competition that aims to provide budding entrepreneurs of India with a unique opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a distinguished jury.The competition aims to identify and reward the startups offering innovative solutions for shared, connected and environment-friendly mobility. 
  • 'Pitch to MOVE' the competition is to open primarily to startups from various parts India who are interested in showcasing their business ideas to jury members.
  • Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari today launched three short films for generating public awareness towards road safety.

New Launching:
  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has launched BSNL WINGS a VOIP based service. In WINGS, there is no SIM or cable wiring as is a VOIP service through an app. The WINGS service offers unlimited free audio/video calling for one year. The service can be activated with a one-time fee of Rs. 1,099 (Rs 1,297 with GST).

  • On the eve of launching three short films for generating public awareness Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari appoints Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar as brand ambassador.

Agreements:
  • Bharti Axa Life Insurance and Airtel Payments Bank on Thursday entered into an alliance to offer the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana’ (PMJJBY), a government-backed life insurance scheme.

  • Major Aditya Kumar and Rifleman Aurangzeb has been conferred Shaurya Chakra.

International:
  • The Government of India has released 470 million Nepali rupess grant for Terai roads project in Nepal. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed over a cheque of grant to Secretary, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport of Nepal, Madhusudan Adhikari in Kathmandu Tuesday evening.

Sports:
  • Former India spinner Ramesh Powar was  named head coach of the women's national team till the ICC World T20, scheduled to be held in November.
  • Nihal Sarin became India’s 53rd Grandmaster after attaining his third and final GM-norm in the Abu Dhabi Masters on Tuesday.

Obituary:
  • Former India cricket captain Ajit Wadekar, who led the team to path-breaking Test wins in England and the West Indies, passed away today after prolonged illness.He was 77.
  • Noble prize winner British author VS Naipul died at the age of 85.
