National:
  • India Chem 2018, the 10th Biennial International Exhibition & Conference began in Mumbai.The largest event of Chemicals and Petrochemical Industry in India will continue till 6 October.Union Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the conference.
  • A four-day Indian International Science Festival (IISF) 2018 kicked off in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.The subject of this year's festival is science for transformation. Union science and technology minister Dr Harsh Vardhan open the event.

International:
  • Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi on October 3, 2018 became the first person to be stripped of the honorary Canadian citizenship for her role in gross human rights violations against the Rohingya people.

Importance of the DAY:
  • World Teachers’ Day is celebrated globally on 5th October. The WTD 2018 will mark the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) that recognizes education as a key fundamental right and establishes an entitlement to free compulsory education, ensuring inclusive and equitable access for all children.The theme for this year's WTD is “The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher,”.

Defence:
  • India and Kazakhstan agreed to step up military cooperation, especially in the areas of defence production, as Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met her counterpart Nurlan Yermekbayev during her three-day visit to the central Asian country.

Ranking:
  • India’s overall ranking on the Government’s adoption of e-payments has moved up to 28th in 2018, from 36th in 2011, but it needs to do more on digital infrastructure access and socio-economic factors.Norway leads the table followed by France and Denmark.
  • Reliance Industries’ Chairman Mukesh Ambani has emerged as the richest Indian for the 11th consecutive year with a net worth of USD 47.3 billion, according to Forbes magazine. 

Defence Exercise:
  • A Vietnam Coast Guard ship, on its maiden visit to Chennai, undertook joint exercises with the Indian Coast Guard 'Sahyog HOP TAC-2018', off the city coast aimed at strengthening the working level relationship between them.

Sports:
  • The  36th National Games in Goa will be held from March 30 to April 14 next year. Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) Executive Director V M Prabhudesai made the announcement in Panaji after a meeting with visiting officials of the Indian Olympic Association. Shooting and cycling events will be held in New Delhi as Goa does not have facilities for these two sports.
