National:
  • The Supreme Court Tuesday ruled that the None of The Above (NOTA) option cannot be made available in Rajya Sabha elections. A three-judge bench of CJI Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud observed that the NOTA option is applicable only for direct elections and not indirect elections such as the Rajya Sabha polls.

International:
  • In Sri Lanka, the ten-day festival of the historic Esala Maha Perehera began In Kandy  with a grand procession. The procession set off from the biggest Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka,  Sri Dalada Maligawa at an auspicious time.

  • In order to replenish and rejuvenate water resources, two Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur alumni members have recently seed-funded to set up a Re-Water Research Center.
  • In an attempt to jointly tackle the drug menace in the country’s northern region, six States -- Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi -- and the Union Territory of Chandigarh on Monday decided to set up a centralised secretariat at Panchkula (Haryana) where nodal officers from each State will be deputed for sharing intelligence and information.

  • Novak Djokovic has finally won in Cincinnati, and he made history in the process.Djokovic beat Roger Federer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in Sunday's high-profile championship match at the 2018 Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.
  • Rishabh Pant became fourth Indian wicket-keeper to take five catches on Test debut during the second day of the third Test against England.Rishabh Pant has become India's 291st test Player.
