SSC CHSL New Exam Pattern and Syllabus 2017
Staff Selection Commission has recently published the SSC CHSL 2017 Examination notification. The exam is conducted in three tiers i.e. Tier I, Tier II and Tier III. In 2017 SSC has made some significant changes in the exam pattern. In Tier I exam of this year, the time is reduced from 75 minutes to 60 minutes. Here the latest changed pattern in the SSC CHSL(10+2) examination 2017, Syllabus and Previous year cut-off are discussed.
Exam Pattern of CHSL Tier I –- Total time for the Online Test is 60 minutes (80 minutes for VH/OH candidates).
- Question will be of MCQ type.
- There will be negative marking of 0.50 for every wrong answer.
- There will be 100 questions and the question would be in English/ Hindi (Except Language).

Exam Pattern of CHSL Tier II –
- The qualifying marks of this exam are 33%.
- The exam is descriptive in nature and total marks are 100.
- The time limit for the Examination is 1 hour. The VH/OH/ OH with Writing hand candidate would avail the 20 minutes time relaxation.
- The performance of Tier II examination would be considered for preparing merit list.
- The paper can be answered in either in Hindi or in English (both languages cannot be used).
- The marks will be calculated for the final list of successful candidates.

- In this section there would be a skill test/ Typing test.
The tier I examination of SSC CHSL examination has four sections i.e. General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. The Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning, Arithmetic, Trigonometry are very important for these exams. Maximum questions come from these topics. On the other hand, the aspirants must be well aware of the basic GK for the General Awareness section. For the English Language, strong concept of vocabulary is needed. Right Circular Cone, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Right Circular
Cylinder, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Sphere, Hemispheres, Regular Right
Pyramid with triangular or square Base.
Trigonometry-
Trigonometry,
Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin20 +
Cos20=1 etc., Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles.
Statistical
Charts-
Use of Tables and
Graphs, Bar- diagram, Pie-chart, Histogram, Frequency polygon.

World, Geography, Economy, General Policy and Scientific Research.

There would be no questions on map, graphs, diagrams etc. for the Visually Handicapped (40%) aspirants.
Pattern for Skill Test –
- It is qualifying in nature. The candidate has to meet the required speed limit mentioned by the Commission.
- The candidate who has secured the required qualifying marks in the Tier I and Tier II exams, would be called for the Skill Test.
- The Commission holds the rights to change or fix qualifying marks in each part of the examination.
- A key depressions speed of 8000 per hour on computer is required.
- Candidates have to type from an English printer material which contains approximately 2000-2200 words.
- Timing is 15 minutes for the skill test.
- The marks would be adjusted on the basis of correct key depressions.
- If there is any shortage of qualified candidates in OBC, SC, ST, VH, HH, OH or other reserved seats, the candidates from General category can fill up the vacancy.
- Every qualified candidate of Tier I and II has to appear for the Skill Test.
- The Skill Test would be held at Regional Offices of the Commission or other centers mentioned by the Commission.
Pattern of Typing Test –
- It would be conducted in English or Hindi.
- Speed required for English and Hindi Medium students is 35 and 30 words per minute respectively.
- Timing for the test is 10 minutes (30 minutes for VH candidates).
