English Grammar - How to Use Preposition
English Grammar is very important for the upcoming IBPS and other Banking exams. The English Study Notes and Quizzes from Achiever's Rule are the boon for the aspirants. Some words suit with particular prepositions after them. Here Some Examples of Appropriate Prepositions are discussed.
- saddle (somebody) with (something) - I was saddled with (put under responsibility) the heavy tasks.
- safe from (adjective) - He is safe from danger.
- Sanguine of (success) - I am sanguine (hopeful) of success.
- Satisfied with/ of (the truth) - I am satisfied with / of his conduct.
- Satisfaction in/ at / with - I find satisfaction in/ at/ with helping the poor.
- Satisfactory to (a person) , for (a purpose) - I hope this arrangement will be satisfactory to you.
- Saturated with - His clothes were saturated with rain water.
- Search for - We searched for the book in the library.
- In search of - The police are in search of the thief.
- Secede from - The boy seceded from the party.
- Seclude from - He lives a life secluded from the society.
- Secure against (attack), from (harm) - The city is secure against flood. / His money is secure from the robbers in a bank.
- Senior to - He is senior to me by service.
- Seek for - We seek for it in that place.
- Sensible of - I am sensible of the risk.
- Sensitive to - He is sensitive to cold.
- Sentence to, for - He was sentenced to death for murder.
- Shame at/ for - I feel shame at you for your conduct.
- Short of - I am short of funds.
- Side with - He sided with me.
- Sick of / for - I am sick of this idle life. / I am sick for my home.
- Shrink from - He shrank from doing the task.
- Sin against - You have sinned against God.
- (The) slave of - He is slave of his passions.
- (A ) Slave to - He is a slave to his addiction.
- Smell of (verb) - The glass smells of wine.
- Slur on (blame) - This would put a slur on him.
- Sneer at (smile to show disrespect) - Don't sneer at me.
- Sorry for - I am sorry for my mistake.
- Sink in (mud), into (sea), upon (the ground), under (a burden) - He sank in mud upto his knees. / The ship sank into the seas. / He sank upon the ground being exhausted. / The horse sank under the heavy load put upon it.
