National:
  • President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday embarked on a three-nation tour to Europe, spanning over eight days.On the first leg of his journey, President Kovind will be visiting Cyprus, where he will hold a meeting with his counterpart Nicos Anastasiades in order to boost bilateral ties.
  • The bi-annual talks between Indian and Bangladeshi border forces began in New Delhi today.Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) KK Sharma is representing the Indian side while Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Md Shafeenul Islam is leading Bangladesh in the six days talks. 
  • India and Nepal on August 31, 2018 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on conducting a preliminary survey of a railway line connecting Indian border town Raxaul to Nepal's capital Kathmandu.The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the 4th summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) that concluded in Kathmandu.

International:
  • International tourist arrivals hit record high in 2017 with India leading the growth in South Asian region. According to data from the UN's tourism organisation, a total of 1,323 million international tourist arrivals recorded in destinations around the world. The figure represents an 84 million increase over 2016, and a new record. 

Appointments:
  • WPP Plc, the world’s largest communication services group, announced today the appointment of Mark Read as chief executive officer and executive director to the company’s board with immediate effect.

Sports:
  • Teenage swimming sensation from Japan Miss Rikako Ikee has been named as most valuable player award. The 18-year-old, who bagged six gold and two silver medals in the tournament, became the first female athlete to win the MVP title.
  • The 18th Asian Games came to a close, with India achieving its best-ever medal haul of 69 and equaling its best gold medal haul of 15 after 67 years.
