National:
  • The Cabinet Committee in Economic Affairs(CCEA)  approves funds to boost educational infrastructure.The CCEA also tasked the HEFA to mobilise Rs 1,00,000 crore for Revitalising Infrastructure and Systems in Higher Education (RISE) by 2022.
  • The National security Guard(NSG) to be first central force to opt for e-ticketing instead of railway warrant under an agreement signed with the IRCTC.This system will eliminate the need of carrying railway warrants by the NSG personnel. 
  • Uttarakhand HC declares animals to be ‘legal persons’. The entire animal kingdom, including avian and aquatic ones, are declared as legal entities having a distinct persona with corresponding rights, duties and liabilities of a living person.
  • ISRO successfully carries out flight tests for 'Crew Escape System'. The Indian Space Research Organisation on Thursday successfully carried out a flight test for a newly-designed Crew Escape System, meant for saving lives of astronauts in an exigency.
  • Law Commission recommends regulated and taxable gambling, betting on sports.The commission has also recommended linking Aadhar or PAN card of an individual indulging in betting and gambling.
  • Nepal and India today decided to jointly promote historically and culturally important tourism circuits like the Ramayana and Buddhist Circuit and adventure tourism.

International: 
  • UN member states approve USD 6.69 billion for 13 peacekeeping operations in 2018-19.United States is the biggest contributor to the United Nations. 

Financial:
  • 25 countries in global banks’ ‘high risk’ list.China, UAE, Cyprus and significantly, Mauritius, along with 21other countries have been tagged as “high-risk jurisdictions” by global banks acting as custodians for foreign funds which comprise the largest group of investors in the Indian stock market.SEBI - registered foreign portfolio funds invest in India through 56 countries. Of these, 25 are now considered ‘high risk’.
  • ICICI Bank on Wednesday said its mortgage loan portfolio crossed the Rs 1.5-trillion milestone, making it the largest private player in the segment, and the lender is targeting to grow it to Rs 2 trillion by FY20.
  • YES Bank gets SEBI nod to launch mutual fund business.In an announcement it has received final regulatory approval from the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to start mutual fund business.
