English Grammar Rules: Use of Prepositions
English Grammar is the most essential tool to perform well in upcoming IBPS and other Banking exams. You must follow the English Study Notes from Achiever's Rule to prepare well. Some words suit with particular prepositions after them. Here Some Examples of Appropriate Prepositions are discussed.
- Labour at (work) under (a difficulty) - He laboured at his work under great difficulties.
- Labour for (a cause) - Ram labored hard for the well being of his family.
- Lack of - She has no lack of confidence.
- Lacking in (thing) – Sweta is not lacking in politeness.
- Lame of /in – The man is lame of/in one leg.
- Laugh at – Everyone laughs at his foolishness.
- Lean against/ on/ upon/ to – He leans against the wall for support. / The old lady walks leaning on her stick. / I leaned upon (depend) you in my adverse condition./ He leaned to my opinion.
- Level (verb) (gun) at/ against (an object) with/ to (ground) – The man leveled his gun at / against the tiger. / The storm leveled his house with / to the ground.
- Level (adjective) - The surface is in level with that.
- Liable to (harm) for (action) – The person is liable to punishment for his negligence.
- Liking for - He has a liking for me.
- Long For/ after (Desires Eagerly) – Everybody longs for/ after happiness in life.
- Lost in (thought)/ to (sense or shame) - He is lost in thought. / He is lost to all sense of shame.
- Loyal to - The dog is loyal to its master.
- Mad with - He is mad with anger.
- Mad on/ about/ for/ after- The girl is almost mad on/ about/ for/ after Virat Kohli.
- Martyr to - He died a martyr to liberty.
- Marry (one person) to (another person) - Ram was married to Gita.
- Meddle with / in- Do not meddle with my machine. / Do not meddle in (interfere) my life.
- Menace to - The careless driver is a menace to the others.
- Mindful of (Attentive) - Be mindful of your duties.
- Mourn for (dead) - She mourns for her father.
- Moved by (entreaty) / to (tears)/ at (a sight)/ with (pity) - He was moved by her entreaty. / He was moved to tears with pity at the sight of her misery.
- Natural to – This kind behavior is natural to him.
- (In) Need of / Need for- I am in a need of money. / Have you any need for money?
- Neglect of/ in- He was fined for neglect of duty. / He was fined for neglect in doing his duty.
- Object to - I object to that decision.
- Open to – Your plan is open to objection.
- Officiate for / in - He officiated for me in that post.
- Obsessed by / with- He was obsessed with/ by this idea.
