TIRTHA DARSHAN SCHEME

 Essential for all Upcoming Exams

Introduction:
Haryana Government has declared a new scheme named “Tirtha Darshan Scheme” on 6th March, 2017. This scheme was for senior citizens of Haryana domicile above the age of 60 years will be able to go on a Pilgrimage within the country at government expense. This scheme was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar. The announcement was made by Manohar Lal Khattar while replying to the discussion on the Governors’ address during the budget session of Haryana State Assembly.



Objectives:
  • The senior citizens would be selected for the pilgrimage on the basis of draw of lots. 
  • More than 400 destinations can be visited under the scheme. 
  • Senior citizens of Haryana domicile above the age of 60 years will be able to go on a Pilgrimage within the country at government expense;
Key Features:
  • Under the scheme, state government will bear the entire cost of the tour of senior citizens belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families; 
  • In case of a couple, the expenses of the spouse belonging to BPL family would also be borne by the government. They would also be allowed to take an assistant along with them. In case of senior citizens of Non-BPL families the government would bear only 70 % of the cost. 
  • There are more than 400 destinations which can be visited under the scheme; 
  • The maximum number of pilgrims will be only 250 every year. 
  • Selection of pilgrims will be made by a district committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner. 
  • The tour packages shall include journey in sleeper class by chartered train and night accommodation on multi-sharing basis. Provision for travel insurance shall be mandatory for the pilgrims. 
  • The Beneficiaries of this scheme will be selected on the basis of lottery system. 
  • Couple belonging to the BPL category is also covered under this scheme. 
  • The government would carry the all cost of the tour of senior citizens belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
