SOLAR ENERGY SCHEME for Small Powerloom Units

Effective for all Upcoming Bank and SSC Exams

Introduction:
The Government of India has approved a new scheme named “Solar Energy Scheme” to provide financial assistance/capital subsidy to small powerloom units, for installation of Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV) plant on 16th March, 2017. This scheme was inaugurated by The Minister of State for Textiles, Shri Ajay Tamta. He was informed the Lok Sabha on that day.
The minister also announced that the scheme will come into force on 1st April 2017.



Objectives:
  • To mitigate the problem of power cut/ shortage faced by decentralized powerloom units in the country so as to improve utilization, efficiency, productivity to face both the domestic and international markets competitively.
  • To empower powerloom industry and build their capacity to meet the challenges of the market and global competition in a sustainable and self-reliant manner;
  • To provide financial assistance/capital subsidy to small power loom units, for installation of Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV) plant.
Key Features:
  • The scheme seeks to provide financial assistance in the form of capital subsidy to small power loom units for installation of Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV) plants;
  • Besides, the Government of India shall provide financial assistance/capital subsidy to the extent of 50%, 75% & 90% of the basic cost of the Solar Energy Plant (Cost of Solar Panel + Inverter + batteries) to the applicants of General category, SC & ST respectively;
  • The Scheme is meant for Units having 04, 06 & 08 power looms and subsidies for different SPV plants will be given in the range of Rs 2,25,000 to Rs 8,55,000 depending upon the capacity of the SPV plant (4KWP, 6KWP, 8 KWP);
  • These SPV plants will alleviate the problem of power cuts and shortages faced by decentralized power loom units in the country;
  • Comprehensive Powerloom Cluster Development Scheme (CPCDS) – It seeks to assist the entrepreneurs in establishing world-class units with modern infrastructure, latest technology and appropriate market linkages. In 2013-14, the Modified Comprehensive Power loom Cluster Development Scheme (CPCDS) was launched in order to extend the original scheme to other parts of the country
  • The Scheme will come into force with effect from April 1, 2017;
Type of Plants:
  1. Off-Grid Solar Power Plant in areas where there is a power shortage and on-grid power is not continuously available.
  2. On-Grid Solar Power Plant in areas where power cuts and shortages are negligible and power tariff is high.
