National Sports Talent Search - An e-Search Initiative

Introduction:
The Government of India has taken an initiative to help the young sports stars to reach to the Ministry through a web portal.  The portal is named as the National Sports Talent Search Portal. The portal is a long-awaited "e-medium" of the Ministry of Sports of India and is launched by the Vice President M. Venkiah Naidu at the Indira Gandhi Indore Stadium of New Delhi. The portal is launched after couple of months of publicity and planning. The portal “www.nationalsportstalenthunt.com” would provide the direct link to the young sports stars so that the ministry and sports administrators can be aware of their achievements easily.
Objectives of the National Sports Talent Search Portal:
  • This portal would help to identify best talents in different kind of sports. 
  • It would also provide one level playing field to the applicants and help to develop a competitive environment.
  • It will help to create suitable infrastructure for different kind of sports in all the states of India and nurture the young talent from the early age.
  •  This portal may act like a platform to find out and train the young talents to produce world champions. 
  • The Government wants to encourage different kinds of sports like Athletics, Tennis, Badminton, Shooting, Gymnastics etc. from the state level through this portal. 



Features of the National Sports Talent Search Portal:
  • This portal must provide the direct link to help the kids and young sportsperson to reach to the ministry and the experienced sports administrators and let them know about their achievements. 
  • The portal must provide the simple three step process to access the facility of it. The three steps are registration, creation of profile and upload of the achievements respectively. 
  • Any sportsperson over age of 8 can register and upload the videos or bio-data on this website. The talented ones must be shortlisted for specialized training. The parents, coaches and teachers of the young sports stars can register on behalf of them.  
  • It would enable any sportsperson from any place across the country to upload his/her complete information.  The ministry would tap his/her talent and must provide proper training to them in respective disciplines. 
  • Transparency must be strictly maintained in these portals.  
  • It would encourage the states to provide proper infrastructure to these talents as Sports is the matter of the states.  
  • The platform of the “National Sports Talent Search Portal” must be the game changer as it enables the “Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports” and the Sports Authority of India to choose the best.  
  • The Ministry of Sports has decided to provide the scholarships of Rs 5 lakh to 1000 sportsperson each for 8 years.  
  • The portal would also be available as an Android App that can be easily downloaded on the smart phones. 
View of the Sports Ministry:
According to the Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel, this portal must find out best talents from the 450 Million youth. The working of SAI must be upgraded according to the changing needs.  As well as, he also focuses on the importance to integrate the sports with existing curriculum of the schools.
