Merit Cum Means Scholarship Scheme - A Complete Review

Introduction: 
Delhi Government has launched a new scheme to help the meritorious students who hail from the economically poor families. The scheme is named as "Merit Cum Means Scholarship" Scheme. The students from the poor families, who have secured good marks in their last qualifying examinations, will avail the 100% fee waiver facility. Especially the poor students, who are recognized by the "National Food Security Scheme", are eligible for this scheme. Education Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia launched the scheme. Under the new initiative of Delhi Govt., the needy students, who are pursuing higher education in Delhi State Universities, must get benefited. This scheme is first of its kind in India.
Features of The Scheme:
According to the Ministry of Education of Delhi, the financial assistance will be given as per as the family income of the students.
  • If the family of any student has the card issued by the "National Food Security Scheme", the student can get 100% scholarship on his/her tuition fees.
  • If the family income of any student is up to Rs. 2.5 Lakh per year, the student will avail 50% waiving of fees.
  • Students with family income from 2.5 Lakh to 6 Lakh per year will get 25% fee waiver.
  • Students, who are pursuing higher studies in the State Universities of Delhi including the GGS Indraprastha University, Ambedkar University, Indraprastha Institute of  Information Technology, Delhi Technological University, Indira Gandhi Delhi Technological University for women, Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology  and Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University, are eligible for the scholarship.
  • The scheme is prepared under the framework of the Delhi Higher Education Aid Trust.
Eligibility Criteria of the Scheme:
  • Students must score minimum 60% marks in the last qualifying examinations to avail the facility of the "Merit Cum Means Scholarship" Scheme.
  • There will be a relaxation of 5% marks in case of the students belong to the SC/ST category.
  • Every student with family income up to 6 Lakh Rupees will be eligible to get the facility of the scheme.
  • The main motto of the Govt. is to provide the facility to pursue the higher education to every meritorious student of the state without any financial worry.
Conclusion:
The Govt. of Delhi has allocated the budget of Rs. 10 Crore for the academic session of 2017-2018. According to the Government officials, approximately 20000-25000 brilliant students from poor and middle class families must be immensely benefited by this scheme.
