National:
  • The Hindi film stars- Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma, have been signed on to promote and endorse the Skill India Mission, chaired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
  • The duo, through their film ‘Sui Dhaaga - Made in India’, are saluting India’s entrepreneurs and skilled workforce, especially homegrown artisans, craftspeople and weavers who are making the country proud the world over.
  • Union cabinet today approved an ordinance making instant triple talaq a punishable offence with a three-year jail term.Speaking to reporters, Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, under the Ordinance, the crime will be recognised only when the woman herself or her blood relative files a complaint against the husband.the case may be dropped if the duo reaches a compromise, but only if the wife approaches the magistrate. 
International:
  • India and Sri Lanka on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for construction of a 5000-metric ton temperature controlled warehouse in Dambulla of Central Province.The warehouse will be constructed with an Indian grant assistance of 30 crore Sri Lankan rupees.The MoU was signed by Mr. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka and Mr. K.D.S. Ruwanchandra, Secretary to Sri Lankan ministry of national policies and economic affairs.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurate two projects via video conference.Both countries had entered into an agreement for the pipeline construction in April this year during foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale's visit. The 130-kilometre pipeline will connect Siliguri in West Bengal in India and Parbatipur in Dinajpur district of Bangladesh. The 346 crore rupees project will be completed in 30 months time.

  • Germany has rolled out the world’s first hydrogen-powered train, signalling the start of a push to challenge the might of polluting diesel trains with costlier but more eco-friendly technology.
Business:
  • Telecom operator Vodafone Idea Limited will merge Aditya Birla Telecom Ltd, which holds 11.15 per cent stake in telecom infrastructure firm Indus Towers, with it. The merger is now subjected to approval of the National Company Law Tribunal.
Appointment:
  • Tajinder Mukherjee has taken over as the Chairman and Managing Director of National Insurance Company Limited (NICL).
Awards:
  • Chairman and MD, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd., Dr. Raghupati Singhania has been conferred with 'Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle', the highest honour accorded to non-nationals by the Government of Mexico. 
Sports:
  • Lewis Hamilton won the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Street Circuit, in Singapore. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won the 1st position. He was followed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the 2nd spot.Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel finished in 3rd place.
Obituary:
  • India’s first woman IAS officer after Independence, Anna Rajam Malhotra, who served in the Madras State under then Chief Minister C. Rajagopalachari and at the Central government, died in Mumbai. She was 91.
