National:
  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has decided to form a three-member committee to look into the draft food labelling and display regulations. The regulations have proposed making red colour-coded labels mandatory on packaged food products which are high in fat, sugar and salt contents.

Financial news:
  • The government has petitioned the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to water down the Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework which imposes strict regulatory curbs on public sector banks to ensure their financial health.

Summit & Conference:
  • 11th World Hindi Conference inaugurated by PM Praveen Kumar Jagannath in Port Louis, Mauritus. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha and West Bengal Governor Keshri Nath Tripathi are attending the conference.In the afternoon sessions, delegates from 20 countries including India will deliberate on eight sub-topics related to "Hindi World and Indian Culture". 

International:
  • Cricketer-turned-politician and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan was sworn in as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan on Saturday in presence of several leaders and cricketers. The oath-taking ceremony was administered by President Mamnoon Hussain at the President House in Islamabad.A total of 172 votes in the 342-member lower house of Parliament are needed to form a government.

Sports:
  • Asian games 2018 kick started in style in Jakarta and Palembang,Indonesia 2018.A total of 572 Indian athletes will be participating in the event in 36 different sports categories. The contingent will be led by Chef de Mission Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Obituary:
  • The seventh Secretary-General 'Kofi Annan', who rose through the ranks of the UN, suffered with a short illness before he died.
