National:
  • Union Minister of Steel, Chaudhary Birender Singh, unveiled the corporate sports policy for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Steel here today. The policy will provide a framework for promotion of sports by Steel Ministry CPSEs.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) was signed between the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and National Health  Agency (NHA), to provide capacity building for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana(PMJAY) to ensure effective rollout and continued quality implementation.
  • Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with six states for the construction of the Lakhwar multi-purpose project in the upper Yamuna basin to deal with water crisis.Chief ministers of respective states were present on the eve of construction of the 204 metre high water storage project in Uttarakhand's Lohari village.
  • The G20 Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting was held in Salta, Argentina. It took place as part of Sherpa Track for 2018 G20 Leaders’ Summit, which is going  be hosted by Argentina by end of 2018. The theme of the meeting was 'Building consensus for fair and sustainable development'.

Financial news:
  • Official data shows that Foreign Direct Investment, FDI in India rose 23 percent, to 12.8 billion dollars during the April to June quarter of this fiscal. According to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion data, the foreign fund inflows in April-June 2017-18 stood at 10.4 billion dollars.
  • Punjab National Bank (PNBNSE -2.76 %) today said a Department of Financial Services report has rated it as number one state-owned bank in terms of digital transactions. 
  • DBS Bank has been named the world's best bank by Global Finance magazine, in a reflection of its ability to invest in digital innovation while still maintaining stable operations for its customers.DBS is the first Asian bank to receive the accolade from the New York-based publication, which last year gave the title to ING Bank.
  • Vying for a bigger share in the emerging market of online payments industry, Google during its annual event, Google for India, on Tuesday rebranded its payments app for India Google Tez as Google Pay, and also launched its new features.

  • Industry chamber Assocham today appointed former bureaucrat Uday Kumar Varma as its new Secretary General.He succeeds DS Rawat who held the position for nearly 14 years, Assocham said in a statement. 

Sports:
  • Neeraj Chopra has become first ever Indian to win a gold medal,  he continued his impressive run in 2018 as he bagged gold in men's javelin throw at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang on Monday.Chopra managed a personal best throw of 88.06 to win the top prize in javelin throw while China's Liu Qizhen and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem came second and third with throws of 82.22 and 80.75 respectively.
  • Ace shuttler P V Sindhu has won India's first ever silver medal in Badminton in Asian Games.She lost to Tai Tzuying(Taiwan) in Women single's final.
  • The 2019 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships will be held in the North Korean capital Pyongyang, a signal that the secretive country may be coming in from the sporting cold.
