National:
  • The government unveiled a draft scheme for extending the affordable air travel program UDAN (‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) to international circuits, with state governments identifying the routes for operation.The Ministry of Civil Aviation has prepared a draft scheme document for “UDAN International” and invited comments from stakeholders till September 4.The draft International Air Connectivity scheme envisages increasing the international ticketing to 20 crore by 2027.
  • NITI Aayog today released five thematic reports on Sustainable Development in Indian Himalayan Region.Listing challenges in all five thematic areas, the reports said, nearly 30 per cent of springs crucial to water security of people are drying and 50 per cent have reported reduced discharge. 

Science and Technology:
  • Europe launched a rocket from French Guyana on Wednesday, to put a satellite named ' Aeolus' into orbit which will track global winds, allowing for improved weather forecasting, Arianespace said.

Financial news:
  • The World Bank has priced the first public bond, designed and managed on the blockchain, at 100 million AUD (73.16 million USD), Reuters reported. The global financial institution is looking forward to examining how the distributed ledger technology can improvise the bond sales practices.
  • The pilot deal is dubbed “Bondi” bond - abbreviated for Blockchain Operated New Debt Instrument. Also, Bondi is Australia's most famous beach. Bondi is looked as the first step towards doing away with manual processes with regard to bond sales.
  • Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ujjivan Financial Services Ltd, has launched overdraft (OD) facility for micro and small enterprise (MSE) customers across its branches nationally. The facility is an add-on product to the existing MSE term loans offered by the bank.
  • In its Global Macro Outlook for 2018-19,Moody's investor service expected that The Indian economy is expected to grow by around 7.5% in 2018 and 2019 as it is largely resilient to external pressures like those from higher oil prices.

  • The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has appointed former Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice SJ Vazifdar as Chairman of the three-member independent committee to decide Vedanta Limited’s plea challenging closure of its Sterlite copper plant at Thoothukudi.
  • Australia's Malcolm Turnbull has been ousted as prime minister following a week of chaos in the capital, as the nation watched the ruling Liberal Party tear itself apart over ideological differences.His replacement is former treasurer Scott Morrison, one of the architects of Australia's tough immigration policy, who is now the country's sixth prime minister in just over a decade.

  • Top seeds Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan notched up their maiden men’s tennis doubles gold medal at the Asian Games 2018.They defeated Aleksander Bublik and Denis Yevseyev of Kazakhstan. 
  • India bagged two bronze medals in rowing through Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Singh in lightweight double sculls after Dushyant started the day with a third-place finish in lightweight single sculls at the Asian Games  in Palembang.
  • Indian rowers Sawarn Singh, Dattu Bhokanal, Om Prakash and Sukhmeet Singh won the men's Quadruple Sculls to win India's fifth gold medal at the Asian Games 2018.
