Introduction:
Kerala Government has launched a new initiative to promote the technology-enabled Education in 60,000 Govt. schools of the state. This new initiative is known as the "Hi School Kuttikoottam". Under this initiative, the ICT (Information and Communication Technology-Enabled) learning program in the schools is promoted. This initiative is launched by the Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) to empower the students in the field of technology by providing adequate training.
Objectives of the "Hi School Kuttikoottam" Program:
  • The program will facilitate in-depth and complete Information and Communication Technology-Enabled learning environment for the students.
  • It will improve the efficiency of the ICT-enabled education in the schools of the state.
  • It must ensure the safe usage of internet.
  • It would build awareness against the increasing cyber-crimes.
  • Special focus would be given on the animation, multimedia, hardware, language computing, electronics, internet, cyber safety and language computing in the training provided to the students.


Features of the ‘Hi School Kuttikoottam’ Program:
  • This program is modeled as the permanent set-up to bring approximately one lakh students under the network.
  • Minimum 20 students from every school must be part of this network. The maximum strength is 12% of the section strength of high schools.
  • This program must be strengthened as the part of the “General Education Protection Mission” besides ensuring the participation of the students in several activities. 
  • It would make necessary arrangements for school students to create awareness among them. It also provides training to the fellow students and their guardians in the ICT. 
  • Under this program proper infrastructure would be built to the environment for the in-depth learning of ICT.
  • Apart from that, it would provide the students the experience to learn in a group cooperating each other. 
  • It also improves the ICT enabled education at schools and encourages students to participate in resolving the technical issues at their schools.
  • It will provide the students the knowledge regarding safe internet usage and cybercrimes. As well as, they would be equipped to lead awareness campaigns.
  • The students must be provided training to learn various computer programming languages.
  • Five sectors are chosen on which the trainings would be given. Those are hardware, animation and multimedia, cyber-security, internet and computer languages. 
  • The training will be held in approximately 1531 centers in the state.
  • There will be a committee in the schools where the President of parent-teacher association (PTA) would act as the chairman and headmaster/headmistress as the convener. They will coordinate the programs. 
  • The IT coordinators of the schools would plan the daily activities of the students and that would be made without affecting the class timings.
  • Many Organizations like Start-up Mission (Electronics), Google and "Swathanthra Malayalam Computing" have shown their interest to support the program.
  • The program would use the social responsibility funds of corporate organizations. 
  • The funds under the Digital India program of India can be used to make the hardware available to the students.
Conclusion:
According to the Vice Chairman and Executive Director of KITE K Anvar Sadath, the ‘Hi School Kuttikoottam’ would become the biggest student network in India of its kind. Approximately one million students must be benefited by the program and it will make a good impact on society in future.
