PMSSY Scheme - A Health Initiative

Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana

Introduction-
India is a country with approximately 1.324 Billion populations. To provide the adequate medical facility to all the citizens of India, the Union Government launched the scheme named as Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). In the previous phases of this scheme, many AIIMS was set up in various states of India. 

Under this scheme, 14 more All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be set up across India additionally. Union Health Minister J P Nadda has announced about the new initiative in Lok Sabha. Along with that various research Institutes will be established in different corners of India. By the implementation of the scheme, the people of rural area can avail advanced medical facilities at their native places. There will be need to move to different cities for upgraded medical service.

Objective of This Scheme-
  • The main motto of this scheme is to correct the imbalances in case of availability of the healthcare facilities in the various parts of India at an affordable cost.
  • On the other hand, the facilities of medical education of advanced quality in all the under-served States particularly will be provided. Thus the medical colleges of these states can be able to produce best doctors.
Features of the Scheme-
  • The Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) aims to reduce the unavailability of proper medical facilities in various states in India. Its main motto is to rectify all the healthcare facilities those are provided to the citizens of India.
  • Under this scheme equal medical facilities would be provided in rural and urban areas of India. 
  • Many hospitals and medical research centers would be set up by the Government. The medical facilities of the existing medical colleges and hospitals must be improved.
  • Under this Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) national program, the Union Government will establish twenty State Cancer Research Institutes and fifty Territory Cancer Care Institutes to prevent and control Diabetes, Cancer, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases and strokes in various parts of India.  
  • Apart from different the government colleges the Union Government will establish many AIIMS in many parts of India. It will be funded from the different schemes which are centrally sponsored and related to build the proper infrastructure for public health.  
  • The cost of the project to upgrade of each of the medical institution is estimated approximately Rs. 150 Crores per medical college. Out of the total amount the Central Government will provide Rs. 125 Crores and the rest Rs. 25 Crores will be provided by the Governments of respective states.
Conclusion-
According to the Govt., the successful implementation of PMSSY would ensure affordable and better healthcare facilities. These facilities will be accessible easily at an affordable cost to the people of the country.
