NATIONAL:

  • India has become world's second largest importer of LPG.It replaced Japan from the second position .as per the data from the Oil Ministry India has imported 23 percent more LPG in the financial year 2016-17,a figure that stands at 11 Million Tonnes.
  • India has become world's fifth largest Military Spender.As per the Stockholm international Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) India's military expenditure stands at 55.9 Billion USD.
  • The Port Trust of Mumbai is going to construct country's first and longest sea rope-way to connect Mumbai with the famous Elephanta island in the Arabian sea.This 8 Km long ropeway will begin from Sewri in Mumbai's east Coast and will end at Raigad district's Elephanta Island.
  • India and France have kick started the joint maritime exercise 'Varuna' at Mediterranean sea.Guided missile destroyer INS Mumbai,Stealth Frigate INS Trishul and Fleet tanker INS Aditya take part in this exercise.

INTERNATIONAL:

  • 'World malaria Day'is observed globally on 25th April.This is organised by World Health Organisation(WHO).The theme of this year's World malaria day is 'End Malaria For Good'.

FINANCIAL NEWS:

  • The State bank of India and CREDAI(Confederation of Real estate developer's Association of India)have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)to conduct various activities towards development of reality Sector.

AWARDS:

  • Environment activist Prafulla Samantara has been selected for 'Goldman Environmental Prize 2017' from Asian region for Championing the cause of State's dongria Kondh Tribals and safeguarding their land and culture.
  • Veteran actor Kasinathuni Viswanath has won the Dadasaheb Phalke award for his outstanding contribution to the film industry.
  • Nobel laureate 'Kailash Satyarthi' has won global crusade against child slavery and exploitative child labour.

APPOINTMENT:

  • Hemanta Biswas has become the Interim Head of Badminton association of India. 

SPORTS:

  • Indian Shot Putter Manpreet Kaur has won Gold in the First leg of the Asian Grand Prix Athlete Meet in Jinhua,China.
